Welcome to the Reproducible & Collaborative Lab Handbook, a resource developed by Research & Data Services (RDS) at the UCSB Library as a self-paced companion to the Reproducible & Collaborative Lab Program during which our team engages with your lab over several months. Whether you are a Principal Investigator building from the ground up or managing a current lab, a team member looking to streamline your data workflows, or a lab manager wanting to improve your lab data management, this handbook provides practices for enabling a research environment that is open, efficient, and reproducible.
We view the research lab as the primary unit of scientific production. This guide is designed to help you build sustainable systems that outlast individual project timelines, ensuring your research products—data, code, and methods—remain reusable and robust for you, your labmates, and future collaborators.

Consultation program
Over a few months, the Research Data Services (RDS) team will partner with you and your lab members to set up the necessary infrastructure and practices to enhance the reproducibility of your research, enabling your lab to efficiently reuse your work and collaborate more effectively.
Format
- Scheduled at your convenience (e.g. during lab meeting)
- 4 workshops (1-2h) for your whole team as a primer on a specific topic
- Personalized coaching sessions as follow-up, focusing on project-specific needs
