Workshop Catalogue Privacy Policy

How We Handle Your Data

The RDS Workshops Catalogue is designed with privacy in mind. This page explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information.

Data Collection

This website is a static application that runs entirely in your browser. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to our servers.

What We Do NOT Collect:
  • Personal identification information
  • Email addresses or contact information
  • Browsing history or tracking data
  • Cookies for tracking purposes
  • IP addresses or device information

Local Data Processing

All workshop filtering, searching, and sorting happens locally in your browser. This means:

  • URL Parameters: When you apply filters, your selections are reflected in the URL (e.g., ?area=area-humanities). This allows you to bookmark or share specific views, but no data is sent to us.
  • Local Storage: We do not use browser local storage or session storage.
  • No Server Communication: After the initial page load, no additional data is sent to or received from our servers.

Calendar Subscriptions

When you download calendar files (.ics):

  • Calendar files are generated locally in your browser using JavaScript
  • No information about which workshops you subscribe to is transmitted to us
  • Pre-generated calendar files are available for common filter combinations, but downloading them does not track your activity

Third-Party Services

This website uses the following third-party services:

Content Delivery Networks (CDNs):
  • Bootstrap CSS & JavaScript: Loaded from cdn.jsdelivr.net for styling and UI components
  • Bootstrap Icons: Loaded from cdn.jsdelivr.net for iconography
  • Google Fonts (Nunito Sans): Loaded from fonts.googleapis.com for typography

These CDN providers may collect basic technical information (like IP addresses) as part of their normal operations. Please refer to their respective privacy policies:

External Links:

When you click on registration links or external resources, you will be directed to third-party websites (e.g., Zoom, LibWizard). Those sites are governed by their own privacy policies.

Open Source & Transparency

This workshop catalogue is open source and hosted on GitHub Pages. You can:

  • View the source code: GitHub Repository
  • Inspect the data: All workshop information is stored in a JSON file (assets/data/workshops.json) that you can view directly
  • Verify our claims: Review the code to confirm that no tracking or data collection occurs

Workshop Registration Data

When you register for a workshop through the provided registration links:

  • You will be directed to UCSB Library registration systems (LibWizard, Zoom, or Shoreline)
  • Those systems may collect your name, email, and affiliation as required for workshop participation
  • We use registration information solely for workshop logistics and communication

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
